TOP TIPS FOR A HEALTHY HORSE

  1. Every 6 months have your horse's back checked by an Equine Physical Therapist - don't wait for your horse to express pain or a loss of performance before getting his back checked.
  2. Saddle fit - your horse will change shape throughout the year and as his work load changes - regular saddle fit checks will ensure his saddle will not hinder his performance or muscular development.
  3. How is your back feeling today? Spend a bit of time on yourself, find a local McTimoney Chiropractor and ensure you are balanced and pain free - riders and their horse's tend to "feed" into each others bodies - often mirroring each others areas of discomfort.
  4. Make your farrier your best friend! Ask them about your horse's foot shape and balance - build a relationship with your farrier to ensure your horse's feet are given the best of care.
  5. Keep a photo diary of your horse: take a photo of your horse once a month - as physical changes can happen gradually and sometimes its hard to pinpoint when a problem starts - a photo diary will help you keep an eye out for any changes to his posture and condition which could be an indicator of a problem.
