Hold On - Here comes the technical bit!
McTimoney Physical Therapy for animals will reduce the effects of musculoskeletal injuries which are a major cause of BACK PAIN in horses and dogs. A loss of performance or a change in your horse's or dog's behaviour however subtle, can be a sign of musculoskeletal injury.
Equine & Canine Physical Therapy can:
- Reduce pain and discomfort caused by injury
- Improve joint mobility and flexibility in neck, back and hindquarters
- Improve nervous system function
- Reduce the risk of future injury
- Improve performance ability
- Improve muscular development and condition
- Improve gait function
- Increase blood flow
- Improve negative behaviour patterns
- Increase digestive function
What Is A Musculoskeletal Injury?
An injury which is either acute (sudden and with immediate effect) or a chronic problem (takes effect over a longer period of time) can cause muscles to become tight and sore, this causes comprised movement, pain, and a reduction in correct joint function as the animal compensates by changing normal gait patterns to try to reduce the discomfort caused by the initial injury.
This leads to greater muscle damage and if left untreated can cause significant injury to muscles, tendons and ligaments, while also reducing the ability of the nervous system to maintain correct nervous system function.

What Is McTimoney Physical Therapy?
A highly specialised, whole body treament, McTimoney therapy will gently relieve the effects of musculoskeletal injury by using specific musckuloskeletal adjustments. These non-invasive, safe and effective vertabral adjustments will reduce muscle spasm and improve joint mobility, create increased nervous system function and reduce pain and discomfort.
Soft tissue massage, together with passive and active stretches are built into the treatment programme. Specific aftercare advice will ensure that the primary problem is identified and addressed along with treatment of the symptoms of the musculoskeletal injury.
.....................But don't worry we wont test you on this - it does sound a bit complicated but all this means is that after treatment your horse (or dog) should feel a whole lot better!
